MAHO BEACH 2025

MAHO BEACH 2025

We've been here multiple times in the past and knew we wanted to go here again during our stay in St Maarten.

This day we walked over after eating on the strip beside Maho. Hurricane Erin had just passed by the island several days ago and this would be what Maho looked like after that.

Most of the sand had been washed away except for a very small area at the end. It's not the greatest place to swim when there is sand, but not...the waves were high.

Here is Driftwood. It is one of the two restaurants at the end of the beach. It had really changed a lot from the last time we were here. It used to be very small but now it has expanded.

We sat on the wall by the road and waited on the planes to come in. However, today it wasn't happening. There were 2 big planes and 1 small one that left while we were here. I think we came a little too late today.

This is the danger zone...

After awhile of sitting in the heat and no planes, we decided we would just come back another day.

ree

Ok, it's another day and we were going to try to see the planes coming in at Maho again.

If you are trying to get over to the restaurant on the opposite side of the beach, you have to walk close to this wall or on the wall so that traffic can pass. But, beware of the breaks in the wall. I fell once in between them because I was watching the planes and beach and broke my hand.

We made it over to Sunset and wow it has really changed and expanded since last time we were here. This place is huge now!

It looked like they had several bars, but this is the only one we seen open at the time. There's plenty of seating in various area's of the restaurant for food.

ree

Now Sunset has always had a surf board that has the flight times of the big planes coming in. That way you know when to start watching. (They also have a webcam that you can watch from online)

We seen our first "baby" plane coming in:

More small planes:

We sat under the shade at Sunset until we would see another plane come in and then jump up and take pictures/videos. It was extremely hot out.

Jet Blue taking off. I wish we would have seen that one come in.

More small planes coming in.

The next big plane to come in was supposed to be American Airlines at 2:31pm. However, it came in early at 2:15pm so we didn't have enough time to make it down the road to get under it.

Another small plane with the propellers on the front. They look so cool.

The next big flight coming in would be another American Airlines plane at 3:09pm so we headed down a spot where it would be flying over.

You just really underestimate the size of these planes flying so low until you are there. What a thrill.

The next big plane wasn't coming in until 5:50pm so we decided not to stay later.

As we were walking back one of the AA flights were taking off.

Here's a short video that shows Sunset, Maho Beach and its erosion and planes taking off and landing.
