NCL SUN: Day 3 Roatan
DAY 3: ROATAN HONDURAS
Roatan, one of my favorite ports. I know there is a lot of talk about the violence here, but it is one of the most beautiful places and I have never been unsatisfied with any place I have been to here. It's just so beautiful with excellent snorkeling.
Tuesday...What a great night. We get an extra hour of sleep and we don't get to port until 10am. Woo Hoo. This doesn't happen a lot when we cruise, so time to take advantage of it....then again, maybe not. I just couldn't sleep. Sigh* Maybe it was the excitement of coming back to Little French Key. I'm just not sure.
I was up at 3:30am, then again at 6:30am and decided I might as well just stay up.
NCL offers several options for excursions, but this is one port that is just too easy to do on your own (unless you want to go to Maya Key, which HAS to be booked with the cruise line...and it well worth it).
I went upstairs and ate breakfast by myself because I knew just because I couldn't sleep, it was best to let the family sleep in. I had breakfast in Cagneys again and since this was a "late" day, of course there wasn't anyone in there eating. What a joy. This gave me an opportunity to take some pictures (yes, I never leave the room without my camera...even for breakfast). See, I knew I had pictures of this place somewhere.
I headed back to the room and after awhile, the family was up and ready for their breakfast. They went to Cagneys as well.

Sorry, for some reason I really didn't take pictures of the place itself. It wasn't anything spectacular I guess...or I just completely forgot.

We were going really slow into port and made it there by 9:30am.

All of the taxi's were already lined up and ready for us.
It was such a beautiful day.
They made the announcement that we had been cleared by customs and could leave the ship at 9:40. We headed down to the gangway and there were no lines.

We were the second people off the ship. Oh my. That was weird.
I snapped a few pictures of the beautiful Sun as we got off.

It looked like people were getting on the Sun in this port. They were loading their luggage onto the ship.
We made our way out to the long strip mall to the exit.

Then out the exit and you have to turn left to get all of the way out of the compound. (If you turn right, you are going toward the taxi vendors.)

Once you are out of the compound, you are at this main road with a lot of traffic coming and going picking up passengers without the tours and going it on their own.

So today, we are going to a place called Little French Key. We have been here once and it was absolute heaven and we knew we wanted to go again.

It was a 30 minute drive back and once we got to the port, we went straight back to the ship to shower and get food.
I do hope you all enjoyed my review of Little French Key in Roatan, Honduras. It was amazing and we had the best day there. It was a struggle, even though you wouldn't know it. I took tons of pictures while snorkeling, but for some reason, I was having MAJOR issues with my camera...and didn't even know it until I started preparing for this review and took a look at the pictures. I'm not sure what was going on with it but a majority of my snorkeling pictures turned out like crappy.
So we were back at the ship now. We showered and got dressed and I decided that I wanted to go up to the Sports Bar and grab some wings or something. We sat down (others in there with food) and waited and waited. Hmmm, no one was coming over to ask for our order. I finally got up and ask someone at the bar about food-"We're not open until later". Well darn. I noticed on my way back to the table to tell the family that the people in there eating had food on their plate that resembled the food from the buffet. Ah ha! That explains it.
So back down to the buffet we went. At 5:30pm the Captain announced that everyone was back on the ship and we would be leaving shortly. WHAT?!??? I think this is actually the first time I have been on a cruise where everyone is back on the ship AT THE TIME INSTRUCTED to be back on the ship. WOW! Oh wait, I now remember that most of the people on the ship are older and probably not out getting plastered at some Senior Frogs. That must be it. We are on the "responsible" ship this time around. LOL
We went back up on the deck to watch the sunset as we pulled out of the port and it was AMAZING. The colors were so beautiful over the island.

I will take this setting over a sun drifting into the water any old day.

And finally it was completely dark.

We dropped Sakari off at the Kids Korner and we hit the casino to kill some time while we waited on the show to start tonight. The hubby did ok tonight and won $70, but got greedy and tried to double that and lost it all. I managed to find "my lucky" machine and put my $20 in and played for a straight 2 1/2 hours on that same $20 bill. I went up, I went down, I went up again. It was a lot of fun and I always like when I find a machine that will allow you to keep playing forever.
We headed to the show and it was a comedian tonight. He was one that was in the welcome show and was ok. Not the best, not the worse, but it was killing time. One of the ladies (and I'm not sure who she was but she was always around and leading events like the work outs and the shows) caught me yawning and said "No yawning, you can sleep when you're dead" and then ask my hubby "Did you leave any sun for anyone else?" LOL

We headed outside to warm up after the show...WHY DO THEY KEEP THESE SHIPS SO COLD AT NIGHT???? We headed over to the sports bar and was able to grab some popcorn. (I stand corrected in my previous reply to another poster...we were able to get popcorn twice this cruise).
Since we were unable to get connected to the Internet at LFK like the hubby had planned. We decided we would bite the bullet and buy a plan. We checked out the plans and spoke to someone at the service desk who informed us that you could use your own computer in your room and it was simple to sign up. Just click on the browser and follow the directions. We ended up purchasing the package that gave you 250 minutes for $100. (Little did I know that since I'm a latitudes member, you are supposed to get an extra 30 minutes for free with this package). <---I will be better prepared next time.
I headed up to pick up Sakari from the kids club and we headed back to the room. She had made me a lovely necklace that night and I proudly displayed it around my neck for the rest of the night.

When we returned to our room, we had a gift plate waiting on us:

I'm really not sure what it was (and have been served it several times before)...some raw looking meat on the round stale bread. It's not my thing. I appreciate the gesture, but it's just not me. You want to "wow" me send a slice of cheesecake! We ended up throwing it out like we always do.
This was our towel animal for the night and he was so cute. I baby elephant. This would be the first time that we have ever received one of the small animals on a cruise...made out of a wash rag. It was a nice surprise.

More "junk mail" arrived that night as well.

I feel so at home with the junk mail. I can only imagine how much is accumulating at home. One real piece of mail provided for every 5 pieces of junk mail. Such a waste of trees and landfill space.

We watched a little t.v and Sakari worked on a few drawings that night.
I don't know if she had the mean old fire breathing worm that got her today on her mind or not...she started calling this her "dragon book"

Obviously there was some mean monster fish down in the water.

We knew we would be in port the following day at 8am. So we headed to be around midnight...to what I find to be a very HARD bed, but hey...tonight the room steward decided to push our beds together and let us be a couple. :D
