We stayed here in 2010 after renovations had been done to this place. We wanted a place that was close to the South Beach action and within walking distance to the beach/ocean and food ammenities. This place did the job. We personally thought that it was a nice place and the decor was beautiful. The beds were comfortable and the grounds were nice as well. I had read several complaints about the hotel, but did not see anything that was described in the complaints. We were in a building away from the main building and they even had their own little area set up with computers you could use with free internet access.
After several years have went by, I see that they are still remodeling this place, once again, and there are still multiple complaints. There have also been comments that they have removed the nice pool that sat between the hotel and the street.
There are plenty of places along this main road within walking distance to get fast food or in restaurant dining if you do not have a car. It is also located next to the police station, so it's a very safe area to be in.
It is also only 3 blocks over from the beach/ocean and a really easy walk.

My Final Thoughts:
So would I recommend this hotel? If you would have ask me back in 2010, I would have said "definitely yes!!" The hotel was beautiful, the decor was beautiful, the staff was friendly, and it's an awesome location.
However, after reading some of the more recent comments about the "new" construction underway and they have removed the pool, staff is rude, buildings closed, at this current moment (2015), I can not recommend.
ONE IMPORTANT THING TO NOTE: When we stayed here, it was called WYNDHAM GARDEN HOTEL, which of course meant that it was part of the Wyndham chain of hotels, which are usually pretty nice. Now, the place is only called "Garden Hotel", which tells me that Wyndham no longer owns this establishment and it has been sold off to an "unknown" name. Maybe that's the reason for the negative reviews these days.
