MITSUGIRLYS GRADUATION GETAWAY CRUISE review and pictorial
Day 4: St Maarten
DAY 4 is taking us to St Maarten today! Woo Hoo! Our first port!
I had sat the alarm for 6am and wanted to make sure that we were up in plenty of time to shower, get ready and then have some breakfast. I messaged Courtney to see if the other clan was alive yet. Her and Kolin was up and getting ready to get in the shower and get ready.
I decided that I had enjoyed eating at Flamingo for breakfast the day before so much that we would try it again...especially since the entire ship would be up and trying to eat prior to getting off in port.
We arrived up at Flamingo and there was not one person there and I didn't see any food. Sigh. I guess either we missed it or they weren't open on the days we were in port. That's too bad because THAT is the day that it would have been most helpful to be open since it's one of the busiest mornings at breakfast on the ship. (After returning for the day, I checked the dailies and it said they didn't open until 8am...crappy since the busiest times would be before that).
Down to the buffet we went. I didn't complain too much since this meant I would get my waffles with the yummy sugary whipped topping that I had missed the day before.
While we were eating, Courtney showed up and ate with us. Kolin was still getting ready and she said Kendra and the rest were just getting up.
We waited....and waited....and waited and never did see the rest of them at breakfast. We headed back to the room to grab our packed beach bags for the day and tried to call their room. No answer. So normally on every other cruise, we would always manage to eat and then meet at a certain spot on the pool deck outside of the buffet. Kendra usually eats in the same place every morning too so that we know where to look for them. However, I had not ate breakfast with them yet, so I had no idea if this cruise was the same or where that "spot" might be.
We never did see them anywhere on the pool deck and it was getting late. Way after the time that they said we could go to shore. We were due to arrive at 8am, but we arrived around 7am and was able to get off the ship by 7:30ish. Time is wasting. Of course Courtney is in a panic because she is not with Kolin.
I really struggled with what to do. It was now 8:30. I know that Kendra and the family always rely on me to research the perfect spot to go to and they follow my lead. Without me, they are pretty lost and don't know what to do. Of course I pretty much knew for sure that she probably didn't know what the name of the beach was that we were going to. But time was wasting and we decided it was best to just head out, get off the ship, walk S-L-O-W-L-Y down the pier in hopes they would come running up behind us, then find a central location to wait and watch everyone walk by until we hopefully seen them.
Sakari got her picture taken with the turtle (and various other characters, but this was the only one that turned out with her smiling) and we made it to the end of the long pier. Ok, time to find a spot to sit that was centralized enough to see everyone leaving the ship.

I seen a huge building with steps and headed that way. The closer we got, the more I realized...there was Kendra, Kolin and family. Sigh. They said they had been off the ship since 8am waiting for us. She had a bet going with Kolin about us getting off the ship. Kolin said I would leave her and get off the ship. Kendra said "no way is my mommy leaving me and is still probably wondering the ship looking for us." I guess Kolin won.
Away we headed toward the area to catch the cabs. I snapped a few pictures along the way but decided to hold off on a majority of them until we returned.
Here is the outside of the taxi stands. It's a pretty good system and it makes me wish all the ports had something like this. It's a covered area that runs along the turn around street area where the cabs circle to pick you up.
There are signs that say where to sit or stand for where you are going. Simply find your sign and wait for your cab going there.

They also make it very clear on the pricing. The taxi's move in and out so quickly that we didn't have time to sit and wait. I barely had enough time to snap any pictures as the rest of the family immediately got into a taxi van and were waiting on ME this time around. :D

On the way, we discuss our plans with the cab driver. We were getting dropped off at Mullet to spend the morning there and then walking over to Maho to watch the planes come in the for the rest of the time. He said he would pick us up at Maho when we were ready and gave us his card. (I'm really not sure what we were supposed to do with the card unless he expected us to have one of the bars call for him to come pick us up.
We arrived at the parking lot at Mullet. The first thing I spotted was the porta potty. I really had to use it, so off I went. I only noticed 1 of them, so I'm not sure if there are others somewhere else or not. It was pretty clean and didn't smell. The only thing I noticed was there wasn't any toilet paper. Ok, drip dry time for me and to the ocean to "cleanse". hehe It was almost like camping.
We walked out onto the beach and it was beautiful.

I spotted the rocks that I had been told about prior to coming here and knew I would have to check them out later.

I have to say that the warm was pretty calm. I know the waves at Maho can get really big and this place was basically right next door, so I really didn't know what to expect (especially with the little ones). Also I had watched youtube videos before coming and read that this is actually a spot for surfers to come because the waves can get HUGE!!! We were lucky this day.
The kids loved it.

We found our "spot" and decided to get 4 chairs with 2 umbrellas. There was never a need to get enough chairs for all of us and umbrellas to go along with each set because you best believe that none of us were ever sitting all at the same time. (Everyone knows I rarely sit down, you can go ahead and mark me off of that list immediately) So, we decided to share. I believe I was told previously that the cost was $20 for the set of chairs and umbrella. However, they only charged us $15 per set. That meant I was headed off to get a drink with my newly found extra $5.
Here is Rosie's snack shack where you get drinks and food. The pricing (you can tell that the prices have went up by the markings)

I decided it was too early in the morning to be drinking and I wanted to do some snorkeling, so I opted for a diet coke.
This is what I called my "tall boy" that day. Man those things were skinny and tall.

Of course Sakari is always the first in the water. Even though she can swim pretty good, I always make her wear her puddle jumper while in the water if I'm not immediately beside her. Kendra had packed a suitcase (I kid you not) but yet didn't have enough room to pack Braydens puddle jumper, so he was winging it today. (Which I explained to Kendra that there is NEVER a time where it won't fit since it has a belt around it with a snap and we always just snap Sakari's to the handle of our bag and let it hang outside the bag).
Kolin and Courtney headed out and got their first mouthfull of sea water. LOL

We swam for a while and then I decided I would gear up with my snorkeling equipment and head over to the rocks and check it out. After awhile, the kids joined me. I always bring tons of snorkel mask when they come, so everyone had something to wear (just not the full gear).
There were a few fish here and there, but the main thing you find there are HUNDREDS of sea urchins. They were everywhere. From small to extremely HUGE. Some of the biggest I have seen.
I was swimming along and "thinking" that I was taking pictures of them, but once I got home discovered that I must have hit the wrong button and was actually video recording. Sigh. This won't be the first time I have done this and I'm sure it won't be the last. So you have a full 7 minute video of me swimming in the water and the camera going back and forth and then a still moment while it's looking at something then back to what appears to be a struggle in the water. (No, I wasn't struggling, but when you watch someone swimming with a video rolling in their hand you wonder if they are drowning).
The few pictures that I did manage to get turned out completely crappy. Of course I had also forgot to put it on underwater mode as well. Total failure.

One other thing I noticed once I got home and was looking at the pictures, I must have had it on my "Magic-Miniature" setting (which gives you the tilt shift look and blurs the edges of the picture automatically) during this time too. So, not the great pictures you are use to from me while snorkeling.

I decided I wanted to climb up on the rocks and go exploring. I got out on the beach and started my journey while taking some pictures of the kids still snorkeling.
Kendra posing like always:

Kolin decided that he would join me with the rock climbing adventure. Then Kendra and Courtney followed suit. Although Kolin decided to take the hard way up.

The kids all had water shoes on and I let Courtney wear my water shoes since she didn't have any.
Kendra was trying to save a fish caught in the little pool of water during a big splash of waves. She never did get it.

We made it to the big hole area that Kayrsa had told me about. It was beautiful. Kolin kept talking about jumping in, but I told him it was too dangerous with the water splashing against the rocks and of course everyone knows that looks are deceiving in the ocean and it's very hard to tell just how far down the rocks really are from the surface.

Kolin and Courtney climbed over to the other side for a picture opportunity.

Another one of my favorites. I now have this as my background on my computer. hehe

Then soon a "party??" boat came in. They pulled up, anchored in the water and about 10 people piled out of the boat. Along came a guy from the boat with a floating "beer" holder. They didn't stay long. I'm guessing maybe 30 minutes or so. It was just weird that they pulled up, jumped out with their floating beer holder, then left. Ok, maybe they needed to cool down and couldn't wait to get back on the boat to finish their drink? LOL

As you can see, there's a big plane coming in. It had a pretty good view of the planes coming in from there too.

I was kinda upset when I seen what plane it was. It was the BIG BOY OF ALL BIG BOYS. We had missed it coming in. It was only about 11am at that point. I had planned on being over to Maho by noon since that's usually when the big planes come in. Darnit. I had missed this one.
Kendra decided she was hungry and went and got some fries. She just had a baby 3 months ago, so she said she was using her post-pregnancy belly as a table. LOL

I kept seeing big planes come in and landing over at Maho and I started to panic. Were we missing all of them? Was my timing all wrong? Did my watch stop and it was later than I thought? Was the time on St Maarten actually different from ship time? Or were there just a bunch of people trying to get into St Maarten earlier so they could enjoy their vacation a hour earlier than normal? I just didn't know but I got into panic mode and started telling everyone we needed to start packing things up and heading out to Maho.
We completely enjoyed Mullet that day and really wished that we had more time there. The water was nice, the scenery was nice and the beach was nice. We loved everything about it. I highly recommend it to anyone as a day in St Maarten.
We got things packed up and started heading out.
I took a few pictures at the entrance of the parking lot where we came in.

We headed down the street that brings you into Mullet and started our journey over to Maho not knowing what this was going to be like. I can tell you that it was hot out and I had wondered if I was going to die of heat exhaustion on the way there and never make it back to tell my story.
We had several cabs come in and stopped to ask if we needed a ride, Kendra glaring at me during the time, while I shook my head "no thank you, we're just going over to Maho". hehe Consider this a pay back for all your lateness Kendra...your butt is walking!
The walk honestly was not bad since there were trees here and there and it gave us some shade. We also seen multiple lizards along the way, so we had some entertainment as well.
For anyone worried about walking along the street out of this place (which is backed up to a golf course), there are trails along the way and plenty of grass of course. No worries about traffic here.
The following picture is when you get to the end of the golf course trail and you are about to go onto the street right there in town.

We came to the intersection and quickly made it to the sidewalk with no problems and started walking along the street.
It was very nice in this area with tons of places to eat and some shopping.

We noticed a Subway along the way and my kids commented on it. (They were amazed any time they seen anything fast food related that we have back in the states. I guess they didn't realize that other countries have fast food places too and every time they seen one, they pointed it out).
After a short walk down the sidewalk and past the Casino, I could see the airport landing strip and knew we had made it to Maho. This was such an easy walk. I don't really think there's a way to screw it up unless you decided to go off in a different direction and head down a side street or something. Super easy.

I will stop to show you my water shoes after Courtney had worn them climbing the rocks at Mullet. Yes, they are about 4 years old, but no they were not worn like this or had anything wrong with them prior to her rock adventure.
The rocks completely torn them up. The rubber soles were cracked and coming apart, the stitching on the bottom was coming out, the toes were completely messed up and I have no idea why. Kendra and Kolin both had water shoes on and it didn't happen to them. The only thing I can figure out is that Courtney has very small feet (like I said earlier, she is short and I call her my McNugget Munchkin). I think she wears like a 6 1/2 or 7 shoe and I wear an 8 1/2. When she had my shoes on, she looked like flippo (the clown) and there was tons of extra room in the toes of the shoes. Maybe the climbing just torn them up from bending and having all that extra room in them? I have no idea. I just know this was the last cruise I would have these water shoes. :(

We arrived at Maho with no problems and immediately found the Driftwood Bar. Before we had went over to Sunset and really enjoyed it over there. But I have been reminded several times over the years from threads that there was another bar on the opposite side of Maho Beach and I figured since it would be the first place we came to along our route that we would just try that place out instead this time.

Now Sunset is very nice. It has a wonderful deck with chairs and umbrellas to eat at as you have a spectacular view of the planes coming in while you're eating. They have nice bathroom facilities to use and also provide you with a hose to get the sand off of you.
Driftwood is a small bar with not much there other than a place to get drinks and food. It's made out of an old boat, but it looked like a fun place and atmosphere. Just not as nice as you will get over at Sunset. Since I'm not the type of person that will spend time hanging around at the bar, it didn't bother me one bit. I would be hanging out at the beach!

The one nice thing about this place is they did have lounge chairs there for you to use. There were plenty of them too for the small crowd that was there. Maho Beach is not really much of a "beach" and it's mainly for crowds to come and watch the low flying airplanes to come in. It's a different kind of experience. The "beach" is just an added extra to cool off in while you are waiting for the next plane to come in on a hot day.
The waves can get extremely high and forceful there. The sand in the water is a quick drop off from ankle deep to neck deep. Then factor in the waves coming in forcefully then sometimes you can't reach the bottom. You really have to watch your young children here, but ours did pretty good with staying along the beach and just getting wet when the waves came in.
Immediately there were planes taking off from the airport. They went out one after another. I don't recall last time I was there having so many take off around the same time.

Then the big boy decided to leave. You know, the one I missed coming in? I was standing on the wall dividing the beach from the street (you know, the one that I fell on last time I was there and broke my hand?). We were all the way at the end on the side by Driftwood. I watched the idiots lining up along the fence and wondered if they had any idea what this plane was capable of and what they were in store for. I had previously stood on the beach behind one of the small planes taking off the last time I was there. You get pelted with the sand and feel like you have been sand blasted with a machine gun. It's not fun. This huge plane was not something to mess with.
As I stood on the wall, I started remembering how I shouldn't really be standing on it and my husband demanded that I stay away from it this trip. (He was off getting drinks and had no idea I was actually standing on the forbidden wall).
The big plane turned around and as it turned, you could feel the hot blast of the jet engine and it was only at "idle" Lol I looked down and decided to spread my feet out far to gain a wide stance in order to prepare myself for balance a little better. I impatiently waited, gathering both excitement and nervousness. The more I thought about it, the more anxious I got. I'm looking around in back of me and beside me. I'm preplanning where I might go if the air gets too forceful. I would need a back up plan to jump down if needed. This jumbo plane was not going to get the best of me and I was not going to get hurt this time around.
Ok, plan in motion and I'm filming. The engines start to go faster, the wind starts to blow and before it even makes it to full throttle just seconds to take off the sand starts blowing...then, BAM...the worse sand blasting experience ever. How can this be? I'm all the way at the very end and not even in back of the plane. OUCH!!! Man that hurt. I quickly covered my eyes and turned around and my second plan sprung into action and I jumped down in to the sand. I see sand flying and poor Sakari laying on the ground covering herself. Immediately Courtney grabbed a towel, cover Sakari up with it and laid over top of her to protect her.
So much for my awesome video of it taking off. I was too busy trying to save myself. But, here's what I did get.
Finally some of the big planes started arriving (not as big as the jumbo KLM, but still big enough I guess).
I captured every picture that I could. I won't share then all since I got a lot of them.

The kids and the munchkins were enjoying the water and would pop their heads up in order to watch a plane coming in and then back under they went.
The waves were pretty strong and Sakari would sit down at the end of it and when the wave came in, it would carry her all the way up the beach to the chairs.

There was a grassy area in the water and the kids kept diving under to it. I'm really not sure what was so fascinating to them. They stayed here most of the day. I had to go out and check it out.
I guess they were trying to collect some sea shells as the waves brought them in and it was their goal to try to grab it before it went back out. Hey, whatever kept them busy and not arguing (yes, I'm talking about the big kids).

Kendra was discovering I was taking pictures as the planes were coming in and of course is yelling "Mom, take one with me in it" while throwing her arms in the air.

The hubby and Kendra's bf decided they were hungry and headed for some food. I think the hubby got the cheeseburger platter and said it was pretty good. For $11 it came with a huge burger and fries "he said". I never did see it since I was back at the beach. He did manage to bring me back a "drink". Although it was yummy, it was so hot out that the "slush" melted quickly and it turned into something that looked like cool-aide. So, I didn't get to take a picture.
At one point I was standing on the wall watching a plane come in and I hear a familiar voice yell in a scolding way "GET DOWN FROM THERE RIGHT NOW!" and for some reason I immediately jumped down. I've heard this voice before, but usually it's said to Sakari. I don't know what made me jump like a kid in trouble. Here come the hubby walking down the road from one of his many trips to the bar saying "I can't believe you are anywhere near that wall. No know better! I won't be having you break any more bones this cruise." LOL (Anyone who knows us, knows that we are constantly joking around and it was just a hilarious moment as I jumped down quickly).

Kolin caught on to Kendra's hand signal and when the next plane was coming in, they both had their arms up. As you can see in the picture above, the people on the beach were following her lead as well. hehe She always has been a leader and not a follower...just a slow one, never on time one.

This is what you'll see in the water at Maho...

Me and the hubby enjoying some salt water time in between planes.

Just smile and be happy. You're in the Caribbean after all.

So remember those waves I told you about that are pretty strong and would carry Sakari and Brayden up really far? One came along and carried Sakari pretty far and pretty hard. Also remember the day before and her sliding across the pool on the Getaway in the kids water park and getting red? Yep, all those red areas busted open and were now bleeding. Four different spots and I'm not talking about a little itty bitty amount of blood. I'm talking a lot. You would have thought she was bitten by a shark.
This is about 15 minutes after I got her calmed down. She was still pouting and I knew she was in a lot of pain.
She was covered in sand from head to toe. It took me 4 shampoos to wash "most" of the sand out of her hair. I think we continued to work on the rest of the sand a good 2 days later as well.

She decided to stay on the lounge chair the rest of the day. Being wrapped up in a towel so that you can't see any bleeding boo-boo's makes everything all better. As long as she can't see the blood, she's fine. The minute that she does, she lets out a blood curdling scream like someone had stabbed her. Yea, we made sure her legs stayed covered as much as possible.

Now I did not notice until I got home that once again, I had my camera on the wrong settings. But after seeing a lot of them, they actually started to grow on me.

Prices at Driftwood Bar were as follows:
Soda $2.00
Beer $2.50
Cheeseburger & Fries $11.00

We were in port in St Maarten for a pretty long time. I really like this. It really did feel like a long day (compared to most). All aboard was at 5:30pm and it was only about 1:30pm. However, watching the planes and battling the waves was getting a little tiring. I knew from my research that I wanted to start heading back at least by 3pm.
A guy in a van with rims on it kept coming by saying he would take us to the port. We kept telling him we were not ready to leave. He said he would come back. At one point when he came back, he parked and got out and started talking to us. He was a really nice guy and he offered to take us back for $8 per adult and $7 per kid. Granted we only had 2 kids so this was only a savings of $2 total, but whatever....why not. Everyone kept pointing and me and saying "You have to ask the tour guide/boss over there what we're doing." LOL
Kendra had said that she wanted to go back into the little town we had passed on the way to Maho to see if there was anything she wanted to buy and her boyfriend was wanting to look for a pair of sunglasses. So we made a deal with the cab driver to pick us up at 2:30pm in front of the Subway. I had not eaten at all since breakfast and figured we could take a look around in town and then head to subway to eat a bite before heading back to the port.
Along the way we stopped at a sunglasses store. Yes, they were very expensive sunglasses, but that's what Kendra's boyfriend was looking for. The lady working at the store looked us over and shook her head a few times and glared at us like we shouldn't be in there and there was no way we could afford these special sunglasses. It made me feel real uncomfortable the way she was acting. I just kept saying "Let's go." Yes, we had been swimming all day, yes we were a mess, but we had cover up's on and was dry and we had shoes on. This is a tourist area, what do you expect?
Then we walked to the next store. I was trying to find a tee shirt that appealed to me. At one point Brayden picked up and looked at a watch (now mind you I have a watch just like this at home that I used for Nursing and at work. It has the rubber band around it and they are cheap). The lady at the counter yelled at him "Put that down! You break that and you'll be buying it!" Um ok, he was only looking at it and it's a piece of rubber with a cheap watch attached to it. At another point Sakari was looking at some magnets (we always collect magnets when we are in port) and the lady come running around the counter and stood beside her. Ok, what the heck is wrong with this town????? Have they never seen kids before? Have they never had tourist walk into their stores before? I'm really confused but they really put me on edge at this point. I decided I had been in this godforsaken area long enough and I would take my business somewhere else...like the port. I didn't care what type of prices I had to pay if it meant friendly people and good service.
We walked out with me glaring back at her and rolling my eyes. Yea, at this point I was pretty fed up with trying to just do a little bit of shopping.
We headed out to Subway.

We went in and proceeded to order. I have to say that the service we received there was not friendly either. The lady behind the counter acted agitated and was really rude. I ordered a "BLT" (which I meant BMT) by mistake and when she ask me what type of bread and I told her, her reply was "We don't have that kind". Um ok, there's a picture right here on the glass with it. "We still don't have it." I order a different kind. "We don't have that either." Me-"Ok, why don't you tell me what you DO have and I'll let you know what I want." I picked my bread and she started getting out the bacon. That's when I noticed my mistake and told her "I'm sorry, I meant BMT". She actually argued with me for awhile about how I had said BLT. I appologized over and over and told her I had just said the wrong thing. I mean geesh. She just kept going until I finally had to blow up and say "Ok, so I said BLT, but meant BMT. You haven't started making it yet, so what's the problem???" Her reply "Because that's not what you said." REALLY???? OMG. I'm so frustrated at this point. Seriously, why are the people here so rude?
She finally made my sandwich and moved on to the rest of the clan. Meanwhile Kolin had to use the restroom really bad and ask if they had a bathroom. "Nope" she replied. He ask "Is there one anywhere around here?" Her reply "We don't have one here." Me-"He ask if there was one near by and heard you the first time when you said you didn't have one here!" At least she proceeded to tell him to walk down the street and there was one in front of the casino somewhere. Geesh. If you can tell by the look on Courtney's face, she was a little fed up with this lady's attitude as well. I ask her what happened and she had a story, but I don't remember what it was.

We all decided to eat outside because we no longer wanted to stay inside where the unfriendly people existed.

Kolin had done a little bit of drinking today at Maho. Well, lets just say it wasn't beer. Kendra's bf was giving him Crown and Coke and all of a sudden it hit him.

He turned pale white at one point and I thought he was going to pass out. I warned him that I wouldn't be carrying him back to the cab when it arrived. I got a grin out of him.

After we finished eating and a few of us headed back down to a little restaurant in front of the casino to use the restroom, our cab/baller van pulled up at 2:30pm just as he said he would. Kolin felt a little better by this time and managed to make it across the street and into the van.

We headed out and across the new crossway they built around the airport to cut down on traffic jams during the opening of the bridge. We were lucky and didn't encounter any bridge openings or traffic.
I snapped a few pictures going over it.

Our driver was super nice and talked a lot. We were joking around with him. He was telling us he was from Jamaica and his life since he moved to St Maarten. He seems to be doing well. He told us the other vehicles he owned in his fleet and what he paid for them. He showed us a picture of his nice Mustang at home. Told us how they ship car from over seas and a little bit of everything. We really enjoyed the ride and the conversation. He knew a lot about cars and we are car freaks.
We arrived back in port safely with no incidents (and no vomit coming from the rear seat section).

They had this display out in front when we first got out of the van. Our last name is Baker, so it was appropriate.

It was time to get my shopping on. I set out to try to find friendly people.

I managed to find some magnets and surprised Sakari with the 2 that popped and moved. She had no idea that I had bought them and was excited when I gave them to her. I found the perfect shirt I wanted.

Then we started to head back toward the ship. They skies were getting a little gray and it looked like we might get a shower.

More pictures along the way back to the ship.
This is where we found Kendra and the rest of the family waiting for us when we got off the ship.

A pretty little bird that was just singing his heart out in the bushes.

Here's the funny thing...Kendra is always late and always dragging behind. For some reason she managed to get way ahead of us. It was if she was in some race to get back to the ship. It was still very early and we didn't even need to get back to the ship quite yet. So it was weird. I figured she would have stopped at every shop along the way but she didn't.
We found her waiting on us by the rocks waiting to get some pictures of the ship in the background.
Notice her new zebra wrap and matching bag? There was a lady that was selling these along the beach at Mullet and she ended up buying one. It was a pretty nice sized bag with a matching bag inside, pockets on both the inside and the outside and the wrap as well. All for $20. She decided she would no longer have to carry her "luggage" in to port with her. (She had forgotten her beach bag at home....you know, since she wasn't even packed or anything when it was actually time to leave for our flight).

Yep, Kolin has recovered.

We did end up getting a bit of a sprinkle, but nothing major. It lasted a good 2 minutes if that and then the sun shined again.

We were welcomed back with cold washcloths and a drink and it felt so good.
Miss washy washy was standing at the entrance to hose us down of all the bad germs and parasites we might have picked up during our stay at St Maarten.
We all headed to our rooms to shower and change.
I decided to just head out to the balcony for awhile and reflect on the day. The hubby snapped a pic of me deep in thought.
I stayed until we pulled out of port. We were docked with the Disney Fantasy.

Pilot boat was leaving us so I guess it was time to get showered and get dressed for the rest of the day. I knew we were a little hungry and thought we would head up to the buffet to see if there was anything appealing.

Shower fresh, wet hair, no makeup and a little burned after today.

I was really looking forward to some pizza and fries. Of course, this would probably be the only day I couldn't find any. Just my luck. So I settled for other things.

See the cheesy blob at the bottom? It was cheesy potatoes. They were absolutely YUMMY. I would later run in to Kolin who did nothing but talk about the best potatoes he had ever had. I told him I had them too. He would continue to search for these cheesy potatoes for the rest of the cruise and never once did we find them again.
Now Courtney is one of those that is always STARVING, then she picks at her food and says she's done. You know she was hungry when she had an entire plate and ate every last bit of it. She was so proud that I had to take her picture.

After eating we dropped Sakari off at the kids club. Tonight the theme was Pirates. I know from all the previous cruises that this means they dress the kids up in hats and do their face and they parade around the ship singing. We always love to catch them in the act and get pictures. I ask the lady at the kids club when they would be leaving (8pm) and where they would be going along the route. She said she really didn't know yet and it depended on how many kids they had. They had the kids club decorated every night with some type of theme. It was always cute.

We headed to the Bliss for awhile and watched them practicing the dance moves to Michael Jacksons Thriller. It was fun to watch and by watching, I managed to learn a good 90% of the moves. They had planned on doing a flash mob at the 80's party tonight and by golly I was planning on participating. hehe Kendra had mentioned going to this to learn it, but as always, she was too late getting there.
Around 8pm we headed to the atrium area since we know that they kids always parade in this area. However, we never did see them and there was something going on there and it was extremely loud. Maybe that's why they didn't come down there. We walked the steps up and down floors trying to find them. At one point we headed outside of deck 8 and we could hear them singing. Where was it coming from? We look up and we could tell it was coming from the buffet area or somewhere close to that up on a high deck. Man!!! We had missed it. By the time we got up there, they were already back at the kids club. Darnit.
We went up to the photo place to see if we could find any pictures. We managed to find one in the mob of never ending pictures of the hubby walking the plank.
We knew tonight was going to be the 80's party. I absolutely love the 80's and consider it probably the most amazing time in my life. I love the music, I love the dancing, and I love the big hair. hehe big grin.
We had been planning on the 80's party for some time now (us girls) and had been working on some outfits, makeup and hair. We were ready for this.
We went and picked up Sakari at the kids club and headed back to the room to get ready. She was a little upset that she didn't see us along her pirate route. I told her we tried to find her but couldn't. I told her I would take a picture of her pirate face.
Sakari just naturally poses when you take her picture. She has been doing this (put your hand up by your face thing) for awhile and now automatically does it whenever she knows you are ready to take the picture.
I told her pirates do not look like that. They are scary. So this is what I got instead.

I started getting ready and fixing my hair up on the side with a huge big teased POOF. Yep, it pretty much looked just like it did back in the 80's.
It didn't take me long to get ready since I was a pro at doing this once upon a time. Once I was ready, we headed off to Kendra's room where...you guessed it, she was still getting ready.
Kendra had bought me an outfit for the Glow party, but I decided I would wear it tonight instead.

Man the place was packed!!! It was definitely standing room only.
